Beginning with the business case for sustainability, CADENCE STRATEGIES offers the tools and processes for any  business  or community, large or small, to begin incorporating science based principles for more sustainable systems and activities  into their own decision-making.
 CADENCE STRATEGIES, through its principal, Suzanne Denbak was one of the founding organizers of the
 Whistler Centre for  Sustainability and a community leader in Whistler's sustainability journey. Working
 collaboratively, CADENCE STRATEGIES helped to define a new model of sustainability for communities and tourism operators.

 THE WHISTLER CENTRE FOR SUSTAINABILITY, a not-for-profit organization founded by the Resort Municipality of
 Whistler and Tourism Whistler to assist the community and resort of Whistler in its journey to sustainability using the Natural  Step framework developed by Swedish scientist, Dr. Karl-Henrik Robert

  • Jointly led the development of Whistler. It's Our Nature - an initiative to engage the
    entire community of Whistler in a journey towards sustainability
  • Fund raised to support new initiative Project included Speaker Series (Don Aitken, Janine Benyus,
    Karl- Henrik Robert, Ray Anderson); tool kits for residents, small business and educators; video for
    community launch
  • Reviewed the inaugural business plan contributing concepts and strategies for fund raising, product
    development, communication and ongoing roll out of Whistler. Its our Nature to the community and to
    Whistler's 2,000,000 annual visitors

 TOURISM WHISTLER is the destination marketing organization responsible for the marketing of North
 America's No.1 mountain resort. CADENCE STRATEGIES, through its principal, Suzanne Denbak was responsible for  leading the organization in its journey towards sustainability and for engaging the entire Whistler community in the
 Whistler. Its Our Nature initiative.

  • Studied the concepts of the Natural Step framework and developed strategies to introduce them to the organization and the community
  • Assessed the business case for sustainability as a brand differentiator for Whistler
  • Formed an in-house team of change leaders Initiated a comprehensive baseline audit of current practices
  • Launched the sustainability journey using in house training video and core team of trainers
  • Incorporated the concepts of sustainability into the design development of the Whistler Conference Centre renovation
  • Promoted the concept of sustainability as vitally important to the success of Vancouver/Whistler's bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics
